Integrative Cases
Mike Peng is the Jindal Chair of Global Strategy at The University of Texas at Dallas. He is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Career Award winner and a fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB) and the Asia Academy of Management (AAOM). Dr. Peng holds a bachelor’s degree from Winona State University in Minnesota and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington, Seattle. He has served on the faculty at the Ohio State University, University of Hawaii and Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has also held visiting or courtesy appointments in Australia, Brazil, Britain, Canada, China, Denmark, Hong Kong and Vietnam. Truly global in scope, Dr. Peng’s research has investigated firm strategies in Africa, Asia, Europe and North and South America. With more than 160 articles and five books, Dr. Peng is one of the most prolific and influential scholars in global strategy. Used in more than 40 countries, his textbooks on global business and strategy are world market-leaders that have been translated into Chinese, Portuguese and Spanish. He has more than 50,000 Google citations, and both the United Nations and the World Bank have cited his work. Among the top 0.1% of most cited researchers worldwide, Dr. Peng is one of only 101 top scholars in business and economics listed among Highly Cited Researchers (compiled by Clarivate Analytics/Web of Science based on citation impact) in 2020. He has been on this distinguished list every year since 2014 and is the only global business text author to have attained this honor. Dr. Peng’s consulting clients include AstraZeneca, Berlitz, Canada Research Chair, MTR Hong Kong, Nationwide, SAFRAN, Texas Instruments, UK Government Office for Science and World Bank.
Dr. Klaus E. Meyer is Professor of International Business at Ivey Business School, Canada. Previously, he was Professor of Strategy and International Business at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). He also held an honorary position of Adjunct Professor at Copenhagen Business School in Denmark. Professor Meyer teaches in the areas of Strategic Management, International Business, Global Strategy, and Business in Emerging Markets. He previously taught at the University of Bath, University of Reading, Copenhagen Business School, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, as well as Cheng-chi University in Taipei. He graduated with a Ph.D. from London Business School, with a dissertation on “Determinants of Direct Foreign Investment in the Transition Economies in Central and Eastern Europe”. Professor Meyer’s current research focuses on strategies of multinational enterprises in emerging economies. He is particularly interested in how firms adapt their business strategies to the specific conditions prevailing in each emerging economy. He has thus investigated foreign investor’s choice of entry mode and foreign acquisitions in transition economies. Another stream of research focuses on the global strategies that may bring multinational enterprises into emerging economies in the first place. Recent research investigates multinational enterprises originating from emerging economies such as China, focusing on how the home country context shapes the strategies of international growth. In 2013 Professor Meyer was elected to serve a three-year term as Fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB) and was the organisation’s Vice President with responsibility for their 2014 annual conference in Vancouver Canada. Moreover, he serves as Deputy-Editor-in-Chief, Management and Organisation Review, the Journal of the International Association of Chinese Management Research and as Consulting Editor of the Journal of International Business Studies.
